Teaching Personnel is seeking a dedicated and resilient SEMH Teacher to join a specialist alternative provision in Manchester City Centre. This innovative secondary setting supports students aged 11-16 who have experienced barriers to mainstream education and require additional support to re-engage with learning.

The provision caters for pupils with a range of needs, including Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), ADHD, anxiety, trauma-related needs, attachment difficulties, and challenging behaviour. With small class sizes, strong pastoral support, and a focus on building positive relationships, the school provides a rewarding environment where staff can make a genuine and lasting impact on young people's lives.

The Role

As an SEMH Teacher, you will be responsible for delivering engaging and differentiated lessons that meet the individual needs of pupils who may be working at varying academic levels. You will create a safe, structured, and nurturing learning environment that encourages students to rebuild confidence, develop positive learning behaviours, and achieve meaningful outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

• Plan and deliver engaging lessons tailored to individual learning needs.
• Differentiate learning to support students with SEMH and additional SEND requirements.
• Develop positive relationships that promote trust, engagement, and progress.
• Implement behaviour management strategies that support emotional regulation.
• Monitor student progress and adapt teaching approaches accordingly.
• Work collaboratively with support staff, parents, carers, and external agencies.
• Contribute to EHCP targets, pupil reviews, and progress reports.
• Foster a positive classroom culture that celebrates achievement and personal development.
• Support pupils in developing life skills, resilience, and confidence.

Requirements

• Qualified Teacher Status (QTS/QTLS).
• Experience teaching secondary-aged pupils.
• Previous experience supporting students with SEMH, SEND, or within alternative provision is highly desirable.
• Strong behaviour management and relationship-building skills.
• Ability to engage and motivate learners who may have experienced difficulties in education.
• Resilient, patient, and adaptable approach to teaching.
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
• Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or willingness to obtain one through Teaching Personnel.
