About the Role
Are you organised, practical, and passionate about supporting science education? We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Science Technician to join a welcoming and supportive school, where you will play an important role in supporting the delivery of engaging and practical science lessons. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone with an interest in science who enjoys working in a practical environment and wants to support students' learning and development.
Key Responsibilities
- Support practical experiments across subjects including Biology, Chemistry, and Physics.
- Provide appropriate support to students during practical activities, helping them to develop confidence and independence.
- Assist with demonstrations, experiments, investigations, and other practical learning activities.
- Monitor stock levels of equipment, materials, and consumables and report when supplies need to be ordered or replaced.
- Maintain accurate records and inventories of laboratory equipment and resources.
- Ensure laboratories, preparation areas, and storage spaces are kept clean, organised, and safe.
- Follow appropriate health and safety procedures when handling equipment, chemicals, and other laboratory materials.
- Report damaged, faulty, or unsafe equipment and any health and safety concerns to the appropriate member of staff.
- Assist with the disposal and storage of materials in accordance with school procedures and relevant guidance.
- Support the preparation of resources for examinations, assessments, demonstrations, and practical coursework where required.
- Work collaboratively with Science teachers, technicians, teaching assistants, and the wider school team.
- Support students who may have additional learning needs, including SEND, to participate safely and effectively in practical activities.
Requirements
- Good knowledge of science equipment, practical experiments, and laboratory procedures.
- Strong organisational and time-management skills.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and teamwork skills.
- A practical, methodical, and hands-on approach to work.
- The ability to work independently and use initiative when preparing practical activities and resources.
- Good attention to detail and a strong commitment to health and safety.
- The ability to build positive working relationships with teachers and students.
- A proactive, adaptable, and reliable approach.
- An understanding of safeguarding and child protection procedures.
- A current enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to obtain one.
