We are seeking a dedicated Caretaker / Site Supervisor to join a friendly primary school and play a vital role in ensuring our premises are safe, secure and well-maintained for pupils, staff and visitors.

About the Role

As the School Caretaker / Site Supervisor, you will be responsible for the day-to-day management, security and upkeep of the school site. You will work closely with the Headteacher and wider staff team to ensure the school environment remains clean, safe and fully operational.

The successful candidate will be proactive, organised and able to carry out a range of maintenance, health and safety, and site management duties.

Key Responsibilities

  • Opening and securing the school site daily.
  • Carrying out routine maintenance and minor repair work.
  • Conducting regular health and safety checks across the premises.
  • Monitoring and maintaining school grounds, outdoor areas and play equipment.
  • Overseeing site security, including alarms, locks and access control.
  • Supervising contractors working on site and ensuring compliance with safeguarding procedures.
  • Managing cleaning standards and supporting cleaning staff where required.
  • Monitoring stock levels and ordering site-related supplies.
  • Carrying out risk assessments and ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations.
  • Assisting with room set-ups for meetings, events and school activities.
  • Identifying and reporting any maintenance issues requiring specialist attention.

The Ideal Candidate Will Have

  • Previous experience in a caretaker, facilities, maintenance or site supervision role.
  • Practical skills in basic repairs and general maintenance.
  • A good understanding of health and safety requirements.
  • Strong organisational and problem-solving skills.
  • The ability to work independently and manage their own workload.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • A proactive and flexible approach to work.
  • Knowledge of safeguarding procedures within a school environment (desirable).
  • A commitment to maintaining a safe and positive learning environment.
