About the Role

As the School Business Manager, you will work closely with the Headteacher and Senior Leadership Team to oversee the school's operational functions, ensuring resources are managed effectively to support excellent outcomes for pupils.

The successful candidate will lead on financial management, HR administration, premises oversight, health and safety compliance, and the strategic development of school business operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Managing the school's finances, including budgeting, forecasting and financial reporting.
  • Monitoring expenditure and ensuring value for money across all areas of the school.
  • Supporting recruitment processes, HR administration and personnel management.
  • Overseeing contracts, procurement and supplier relationships.
  • Managing administrative systems and ensuring efficient office operations.
  • Leading on health and safety, risk assessments and statutory compliance.
  • Supporting premises and facilities management.
  • Preparing reports and presenting information to school leaders and governors.
  • Contributing to the strategic planning and development of the school.

The Ideal Candidate Will Have

  • Previous experience in a School Business Manager, Finance Manager or similar operational role.
  • Strong financial management and budgeting experience.
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills.
  • Knowledge of school finance systems and education sector procedures (desirable).
  • Experience managing administrative processes and staff.
  • A good understanding of HR procedures, procurement and compliance requirements.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • The ability to work independently while supporting the wider school team.
  • A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
