Thinking About a Career in Teaching?

If you're interested in becoming a teacher but want to build some real classroom experience first, this could be a great way to get started.

Our 2-Year Salaried Teacher Training Programme gives graduates and career changers the opportunity to work in a secondary school in Bournemouth, gain hands-on experience and progress towards becoming a qualified teacher, all while earning a salary.

You'll spend your first year getting used to school life, building your confidence in the classroom and learning from experienced teachers before moving into formal teacher training in your second year.

During your first year, you'll work full-time as a Cover Supervisor in a Bournemouth secondary school.

Your role will include:

  • Delivering pre-planned lessons when teachers are absent
  • Managing classes and keeping pupils engaged with their work
  • Developing your classroom and behaviour management skills
  • Supporting pupils with their learning
  • Working alongside experienced teachers and support staff
  • Taking part in regular training and development

The aim of your first year is to help you get comfortable in the classroom and give you a real understanding of what working in a secondary school is like before you begin your teacher training.

In your second year, you'll move onto the teacher training stage of the programme and begin working towards your PGCE (Postgraduate Certificate in Education) and Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).

You'll continue working in a school while completing your training, with support from experienced mentors along the way.

During this year, you'll:

  • Begin your PGCE through a partner university
  • Work towards gaining QTS
  • Take on more teaching responsibility as your confidence develops
  • Receive regular mentoring and feedback
  • Continue developing your classroom and teaching skills
  • Salary of £23,000-£27,000
  • A structured two-year route into teaching
  • Classroom experience from the start
  • Fully funded PGCE and QTS training
  • Ongoing support and mentoring
  • Opportunities within secondary schools across Bournemouth
  • A clear route towards a qualified teaching career

We're looking for people who are genuinely interested in becoming teachers and want the opportunity to learn within a school environment.

You'll need to:

  • Hold a UK bachelor's degree or equivalent
  • Have an interest in working with young people
  • Be confident communicating with pupils and staff
  • Be organised, reliable and willing to learn
  • Be comfortable taking responsibility for a classroom
  • Be committed to building a career in education

Previous school experience would be helpful, but it isn't essential. What's more important is that you're enthusiastic, willing to learn and serious about becoming a teacher.

The programme is open to both recent graduates and people looking for a change of career.
