This role gives you exactly that.

We're looking for Psychology students and graduates who want to apply their knowledge in a real-world setting while developing the practical skills that universities and employers value. You'll support pupils in secondary schools across Cardiff, helping them overcome barriers to learning, build confidence and achieve positive outcomes both inside and outside the classroom.

Whether you're taking a gap year, studying for your Master's, or exploring different career pathways, this is an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on experience while making a genuine difference.

The Role

Working across Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4, you'll support students who may need additional academic, behavioural or emotional guidance throughout the school day.

Your responsibilities may include:

• Providing one-to-one support for pupils with additional learning or emotional needs
• Encouraging positive behaviour and emotional regulation
• Supporting students who are experiencing anxiety, low confidence or disengagement from learning
• Delivering small-group interventions focused on social, emotional or academic development
• Building positive, consistent relationships that help pupils feel safe, supported and motivated
• Working collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs and pastoral teams to remove barriers to learning
• Celebrating progress, no matter how small, and helping young people reach their potential

About You

We're looking for people with empathy, resilience and a genuine interest in supporting young people.

You'll ideally be:

• Studying towards or recently graduated with a Psychology degree (or a closely related subject)
• Interested in child development, mental health or education
• Calm, patient and approachable
• A confident communicator with strong interpersonal skills
• Adaptable and able to respond positively to different situations
• Committed to helping young people succeed

Previous experience working with children or young people is welcomed but isn't essential. We provide ongoing support and training to help you develop in the role.

Essential Requirements

• Enhanced DBS Certificate on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one)
• Registration with the Education Workforce Council (EWC)
• Two recent professional or academic references
• An up-to-date CV
• Completion of safeguarding training (provided if required)
