Are you a Psychology graduate looking to gain valuable, hands-on experience supporting children and young people with special educational needs?

We are seeking enthusiastic, compassionate and resilient Psychology Graduate SEN Teaching Assistants to join schools across Camberley. This is an excellent opportunity for graduates looking to gain practical experience before pursuing a career in Educational Psychology, Clinical Psychology, Child Psychology, SEN teaching, Speech and Language Therapy or another child-focused profession.

As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with pupils who require additional support with their learning, behaviour, communication or emotional development.

You may support pupils with needs including autism, ADHD, SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health), learning difficulties and communication needs.

Your responsibilities may include:

  • Providing 1:1 and small-group support

  • Helping pupils access the curriculum and overcome barriers to learning

  • Supporting children's academic, social and emotional development

  • Encouraging confidence, independence and positive behaviour

  • Helping pupils develop emotional-regulation and coping strategies

  • Building strong, trusting relationships with pupils

  • Working closely with teachers, SENCOs and other education professionals

  • Creating a positive, inclusive and supportive learning environment

Your Psychology degree will have given you a strong understanding of human behaviour, child development, cognition and emotional wellbeing.

This role provides the opportunity to apply that knowledge in a real-world educational setting while developing practical skills and experience that can be invaluable for a future career in psychology or education.

Previous SEN experience is not essential. Full support will be provided, and we are particularly interested in graduates who demonstrate empathy, patience and a genuine desire to make a difference.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • A 2:1 or above Psychology degree (or equivalent)

  • A genuine interest in working with children and young people

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

  • Patience, empathy and resilience

  • A proactive and positive approach

  • The ability to remain calm and consistent when faced with challenging situations

  • Previous experience working with children or young people is desirable but not essential

  • Hands-on experience supporting pupils with SEN

  • Practical insight into developmental and educational psychology

  • The opportunity to apply psychological theory in a real-world setting

  • Support and guidance from experienced education professionals

  • Valuable behaviour-management and communication skills

  • Experience that can strengthen applications for Educational Psychology, Clinical Psychology, teacher training and other child-focused careers

  • The opportunity to make a genuine difference to children's education, confidence and wellbeing
