Psychology Graduate School Support New

Location: Secondary schools across Cardiff (CF5 and surrounding areas)
Start date: 19th of October, subject to compliance checks
Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:15am to 3:15pm (school day)
Pay: £120 per day, paid weekly via PAYE, with no umbrella company deductions

Planning a career in Educational Psychology, Clinical Psychology, Counselling, Mental Health or Teaching? Most postgraduate courses and graduate employers expect applicants to have meaningful experience supporting children and young people. This role gives you that experience while you're paid for it.

You'll work in Cardiff secondary schools, helping pupils overcome barriers to learning, build confidence and achieve positive outcomes in and out of the classroom. It suits you whether you're on a gap year, studying for a Master's, or still deciding on a pathway.

Working with Key Stage 3 and 4 pupils who need extra academic, behavioural or emotional support, you may:

• Provide one-to-one support for pupils with additional learning needs (ALN) or emotional needs
• Help pupils with anxiety, low confidence or disengagement to re-engage with learning
• Encourage positive behaviour and emotional regulation
• Deliver small-group sessions focused on social, emotional or academic development
• Build consistent, trusting relationships that help pupils feel safe and motivated
• Work alongside teachers, ALNCos and pastoral teams to remove barriers to learning
• Celebrate progress, however small

No two days are the same, but you'll see the difference you make.

You'll develop practical, CV-ready experience in:

• Child and adolescent development
• Behaviour support and emotional regulation
• Mental health and wellbeing in young people
• Trauma-informed practice
• Additional Learning Needs (ALN) and Special Educational Needs (SEN)
• Safeguarding and child protection
• Multi-disciplinary working in education settings

This is the kind of experience that strengthens applications for Master's programmes, doctoral training and graduate roles across the helping professions, including educational and clinical psychology, counselling, teaching, youth work, social work, family support and pastoral roles.

You're empathetic, resilient and genuinely interested in supporting young people. You'll ideally be:

• Studying towards, or recently graduated with, a Psychology degree (or closely related subject)
• Interested in child development, mental health or education
• Calm, patient and approachable, with strong communication skills
• Adaptable and able to respond positively to changing situations

Previous experience with children or young people is welcome but not essential. We provide training and ongoing support.

• Enhanced DBS certificate on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one)
• Registration with the Education Workforce Council (EWC), or willingness to register
• Two recent professional or academic references
• An up-to-date CV
• Safeguarding training (provided if needed)
