This is the final step before secondary school.
Everything now is about preparing pupils for what comes next.

As a Year 6 Teacher, you will guide pupils through their final primary year, supporting them academically and building confidence ahead of transition.

Key responsibilities
Teach the Year 6 curriculum across core subjects
Prepare pupils for SATs assessments
Support exam confidence and readiness
Develop independence and responsibility
Track progress and deliver targeted support
Maintain strong classroom routines
Communicate with parents and staff

The classroom environment
Lessons are purposeful and focused
Expectations are clear
Pupils understand goals and targets
Behaviour is calm and controlled

Skills and experience
Experience teaching upper KS2
Understanding of SATs expectations
Strong classroom management
Organisation and planning skills

What success looks like
Pupils meet expected outcomes
Confidence improves before transition
Work becomes more structured and detailed

QTS is desirable; unqualified teachers are welcome to apply, particularly those with KS2 experience
