Teaching Personnel is seeking a compassionate, proactive, and dedicated PMLD Learning Support Assistant to join a well-established specialist secondary provision in Carmarthenshire supporting pupils aged 3-19 with complex additional learning needs.
This highly regarded setting provides specialist support for learners with Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD), severe learning difficulties, autism, and complex medical needs. The school prides itself on delivering a nurturing, person-centred approach, with a strong emphasis on communication, independence, life skills, and emotional wellbeing.
You will play a crucial role in enabling pupils with complex needs to access meaningful, personalised learning experiences aligned with their Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs).
- Providing 1:1 and small group support for pupils with PMLD and complex needs
- Supporting personal care routines, including toileting, feeding, and hygiene with dignity and respect
- Assisting with mobility and physical needs, including the use of hoists and specialist equipment
- Delivering sensory and multi-sensory learning activities tailored to individual needs
- Supporting communication through PECS, Makaton, objects of reference, and assistive technology
- Working collaboratively with teachers, therapists, and healthcare professionals
- Promoting independence, confidence, and emotional wellbeing in all learners
This is a hands-on and physically active role, requiring patience, empathy, resilience, and a genuine passion for supporting vulnerable young people.
- Experience working with children or young people with SEN, PMLD, complex needs, or within a care setting
- A calm, resilient, and compassionate approach
- Willingness and confidence to provide personal care support
- Strong teamwork and communication skills
- Enhanced DBS (Child Workforce) on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one)
- Registration with the Education Workforce Council (EWC) in Wales (or willingness to register)
- A strong commitment to safeguarding and child protection
- Work within a highly respected specialist provision with excellent facilities
