A supportive and inclusive mainstream secondary school in Darwen is seeking a committed and compassionate Pastoral Support Officer to join their team on a full-time, temporary basis from September 2026 to December 2026.

The Role

As a Pastoral Support Officer, you will play a key role in promoting student wellbeing, engagement, and positive behaviour across the school. Working closely with pastoral leaders, teaching staff, and external agencies, you will provide targeted support to students to help them overcome barriers to learning and achieve their full potential.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide pastoral care and support to students across Key Stages 3 and 4
  • Support behaviour management and promote a positive school culture
  • Work with individuals and small groups to address social, emotional, and behavioural needs
  • Liaise with parents/carers, staff, and external agencies where appropriate
  • Monitor attendance, punctuality, and student wellbeing
  • Contribute to safeguarding and child protection procedures

The Ideal Candidate Will Have:

  • Experience working with young people in an educational or similar setting
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • A calm, resilient, and empathetic approach
  • The ability to build positive relationships with students and staff
  • Knowledge of safeguarding practices (training desirable)
  • A proactive and solution-focused attitude
