Maths Teaching Assistant

We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Maths Teaching Assistant to join the dynamic and supportive team at our client secondary school located in the heart of Manchester City Centre. The successful candidate will be responsible for assisting the classroom teacher in delivering engaging and effective maths lessons to students across various year groups.

This role will start from Monday 15th April, and will run full-time until December 2024. Depending on how a successful candidate gets on in school, the position may be extending until July 2025. The pay for this role is up to £16 per hour.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist the classroom teacher in planning and delivering maths lessons: Collaborate with the teacher to develop and implement lesson plans, ensuring they align with the national curriculum and cater to the diverse needs of students.
  • Provide individual and group support: Work closely with students to help them understand complex maths concepts, solve problems, and develop their critical thinking skills.
  • Monitor and track student progress: Regularly assess students’ understanding and progress, providing feedback to the teacher and suggesting interventions when necessary.
  • Maintain a positive and inclusive classroom environment: Foster a supportive and engaging atmosphere where students feel comfortable asking questions and participating in class activities.
  • Participate in department meetings and professional development: Contribute to discussions and training sessions aimed at improving teaching practices and enhancing student outcomes.
  • Marking and assessment: Mark students’ work, provide constructive feedback, and maintain accurate records of their progress.
  • Support extra-curricular maths activities: Assist with organizing and running maths clubs, competitions, and other enrichment opportunities for students.

Essential Requirements:

  • A strong understanding of secondary maths curriculum and related exam specifications.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students, parents, and colleagues.
  • A passion for teaching and supporting students in their academic journey.
  • Experience working with students from diverse backgrounds and abilities.
  • A proactive and adaptable approach to problem-solving and task management.
  • A commitment to ongoing professional development and keeping up-to-date with educational best practices.
