Learning Support Tutor - Bridgwater & Surrounding Areas, Somerset

Quantum Scholars is delighted to have been accepted onto Somerset Council's Alternative Provision Framework and is expanding its provision across the county. We are now recruiting passionate and dedicated Learning Support Tutors to provide personalised 1-to-1 support for children and young people in Bridgwater and the surrounding areas.

With a high volume of referrals expected from September 2026, this is an exciting opportunity to join a growing team committed to making a meaningful difference to the lives of young people who are unable to access mainstream education.

As a Learning Support Tutor, you will provide bespoke 1-to-1 tuition and mentoring to children and young people aged 5-16 who are accessing Alternative Provision or Education Otherwise Than at School (EOTAS).

Your role will go beyond academic support. You'll help learners overcome barriers to education by creating engaging, personalised learning experiences that promote confidence, resilience, and positive educational outcomes.

Support may include:

• Delivering tailored learning programmes based on individual needs.
• Providing emotional and pastoral support where appropriate.
• Supporting learners to develop social, communication, and life skills.
• Helping young people re-engage with education in a safe and supportive environment.
• Working closely with families and other professionals to ensure positive outcomes.

Many of the learners we support have a range of additional needs, including:

• Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND)
• Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC)
• ADHD
• Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs
• Speech, Language and Communication Needs (SLCN)
• Anxiety and Emotionally Based School Avoidance (EBSA)
• Trauma or adverse childhood experiences
• Medical needs
• Behavioural challenges

Tuition and support are delivered on a 1-to-1 basis and may take place in the learner's home or a community-based setting.

We carefully match tutors with learners based on your experience, skills, preferred age groups, and availability.

We welcome applications from individuals with experience supporting children and young people, including:

• Learning Support Assistants (LSAs)
• Teaching Assistants (TAs)
• Higher Level Teaching Assistants (HLTAs)
• SEND Tutors
• Qualified Teachers
• SEN Teachers
• Academic and Behaviour Mentors
• Youth Workers
• Alternative Provision Practitioners
• Support Workers and other SEND professionals

You'll ideally have:

• Experience working with children and young people with SEND, SEMH, or additional needs.
• Experience delivering personalised learning or support programmes.
• A passion for helping learners overcome barriers to education.
• Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
• A patient, flexible, and empathetic approach.
• An Enhanced DBS certificate (or willingness to obtain one).
• The ability to travel across Bridgwater and the surrounding areas. A full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle are highly desirable.
