Learning Support Assistant New

Location: Basingstoke
Hours: Full-Time, Monday–Friday, Term Time Only
Pay: Equivalent to £14.25 per hour
Start: September

We are seeking a compassionate and committed Teaching Assistant to join a specialist SEN provision supporting pupils across primary and secondary age groups.

The school supports children and young people with a range of additional needs, including Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), Moderate and Severe Learning Difficulties (MLD/SLD), Speech, Language and Communication Needs (SLCN), global developmental delay, sensory processing differences, and associated social, emotional and communication needs.

Working alongside teachers and the wider multidisciplinary team, you will help pupils engage with learning, develop independence and achieve their individual outcomes.

Key responsibilities include:

• Supporting teachers to deliver engaging and inclusive lessons

• Providing one-to-one and small-group support

• Adapting activities and resources to meet individual needs

• Encouraging communication, confidence, independence and social development

• Supporting emotional regulation, routines and transitions

• Helping pupils work towards their EHCP outcomes where appropriate

• Building positive, trusting relationships with pupils

• Working collaboratively with teachers, therapists and other professionals

You will not be expected to lead whole-class teaching, although experience delivering small-group interventions or targeted activities would be beneficial.

We are looking for someone who is patient, adaptable, resilient and passionate about supporting children and young people with additional needs.

Previous SEN experience is welcomed but not essential. Relevant experience may include:

• Education, schools or childcare

• Residential, care or support work

• Youth work or mentoring

• Healthcare

• Sports coaching

• Community or customer-facing roles

You should have:

• A caring and patient approach

• Strong communication and interpersonal skills

• The ability to remain calm and positive in challenging situations

• A genuine commitment to inclusive education

• A willingness to learn and develop within specialist SEN

• £14.25 per hour equivalent

The role is subject to an enhanced Child Workforce DBS check and all relevant safeguarding and pre-employment checks. Applicants without a DBS registered on the Update Service will be required to obtain one before starting.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
