Learning Support Assistant

Location: Andover, Hampshire
Working Hours: Monday to Friday, Term Time Only
Rate of Pay: £14.25 per hour

We are currently seeking dedicated and compassionate Learning Support Assistants to join specialist educational settings across the Andover area. These schools provide tailored support for pupils with a range of additional needs, including Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), complex learning difficulties, and Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.

As a Learning Support Assistant, you will work closely with teaching and pastoral staff to support pupils throughout the school day. This varied and rewarding role involves fostering positive relationships, encouraging engagement in learning, and helping pupils feel safe, valued, and supported.

• Providing one-to-one and small-group support to pupils

• Assisting with classroom activities and adapting learning materials where appropriate

• Encouraging participation, engagement, and confidence in learning

• Supporting the development of communication, social, and independent living skills

• Assisting pupils in managing emotions and behaviour through consistent and positive strategies

• Contributing to a calm, safe, and inclusive learning environment

• Working collaboratively with teachers, support staff, and external professionals

• Supporting pupils during transitions, breaktimes, and daily routines

While SEN-focused settings typically place a greater emphasis on structure, communication, and routine, SEMH provisions often require a stronger focus on emotional support, relationship-building, clear boundaries, and positive role modelling.

We welcome applications from individuals with experience in education, care, youth work, mentoring, mental health support, sports coaching, residential care, or customer-facing environments. Previous experience working within SEN or SEMH settings is advantageous but not essential, as comprehensive training and ongoing professional development will be provided.
