Learning Support Assistants - September 2026 Start
Location: Farnborough
Hours: Monday to Friday, Term Time Only
Pay: £14.25 per hour

We are recruiting Learning Support Assistants to join two specialist schools in Farnborough this September. These provisions support pupils with a range of additional needs, including SEN (autism, complex learning and communication needs) and SEMH (social, emotional and mental health needs).

Both schools provide structured, supportive environments where staff work collaboratively to help pupils develop academically, socially and emotionally.

As a Learning Support Assistant, you will play an important role in supporting pupils' day-to-day learning and wellbeing. This is a varied position requiring patience, adaptability and a proactive approach.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Supporting pupils on a 1:1 basis and in small groups, in line with individual learning plans
  • Assisting teachers in delivering and adapting lessons to meet a range of needs
  • Encouraging engagement in learning and supporting pupils to stay on task
  • Promoting the development of communication, social and life skills
  • Supporting pupils with emotional regulation and implementing positive behaviour strategies
  • Assisting with de-escalation where required, following agreed approaches
  • Helping to create a safe, consistent and inclusive classroom environment
  • Working closely with teaching staff, SENCOs and pastoral teams to provide consistent support

We welcome applications from candidates with a wide range of relevant experience and transferable skills. You may have worked in:

  • Education or tutoring
  • Care or support work
  • Youth work or community settings
  • Mental health or wellbeing roles
  • Customer-facing or people-focused positions
  • Coaching, sports or mentoring roles

We are particularly interested in individuals who demonstrate:

  • Patience, resilience and a calm, consistent approach
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • The ability to build positive relationships with young people
  • A genuine interest in supporting pupils with additional needs
  • A willingness to learn and develop within the role
  • The ability to work effectively as part of a team

Previous experience in SEN or SEMH is beneficial but not essential. Full support, guidance and training will be provided.

A DBS check will be required. Following your application, we will discuss your experience and preferences to help identify the most suitable setting for you.

If you are looking for a rewarding role where you can make a meaningful difference in young people's lives, we
