Learning Mentor - PE Lead

We are seeking an outstanding Learning Mentor – PE Lead to join a specialist secondary setting supporting young people with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. This is a highly rewarding opportunity to make a genuine difference to the lives of students who require additional support to engage with education and achieve their potential.

As a Learning Mentor – PE Lead, you will work closely with students both individually and in small groups, supporting them to develop confidence, self-esteem, resilience and positive behaviours for learning. Through sport, practical activities and relationship-based interventions, you will help pupils overcome barriers to education and achieve success both inside and outside the classroom.

You will also play a key role in delivering engaging PE lessons, promoting healthy lifestyles, coordinating enrichment opportunities and encouraging participation in wider school activities.

You will be joining a supportive specialist primary provision where relationships are at the heart of everything. Staff work collaboratively to provide a structured, nurturing and aspirational environment that enables young people to develop academically, socially and emotionally.

We are looking for someone who:

• Has a passion for supporting young people with SEMH needs

• Experience working with pupils with SEMH needs, SEND or challenging behaviours

• Experiencing delivering PE in a primary school or an extensive background in sports coaching

• Can build positive, professional relationships with students who may have experienced challenges in education

• Has strong behaviour management and de-escalation skills

• Is resilient, patient and able to remain calm under pressure

• Is confident leading practical activities and promoting participation in sport

• Can act as a positive role model and advocate for young people

• Has excellent communication and teamwork skill

• Experience delivering interventions that support attendance, behaviour, wellbeing or engagement

• Understanding of safeguarding and child protection practices

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
