We are recruiting on behalf of a successful all‑through school seeking an experienced and highly effective Lead Practitioner for English to join their team from September 2026.

This is a key strategic role focused on shaping and strengthening high‑quality teaching across the English department and the wider school. The successful candidate will model exemplary classroom practice, support colleagues through coaching and professional development, and help drive consistently strong outcomes for all pupils.

Applications are welcomed from existing Lead Practitioners, as well as experienced practitioners who are ready to progress into a lead practitioner role, with appropriate support available.


As Lead Practitioner for English, you will work closely with teachers, middle leaders, and senior leaders to develop ambitious, inclusive, and research‑informed teaching practice.

You will play a central role in improving the quality of teaching and learning, embedding effective pedagogy, and supporting staff to grow in confidence and impact, ensuring excellent outcomes for students across all phases.


  • Model consistently high‑quality teaching practice across English and the wider school
  • Develop and share high‑quality teaching resources and materials
  • Lead coaching, mentoring, and professional development activities for teaching staff
  • Support lesson observations, feedback, and reflective practice
  • Use assessment and performance data to identify targeted support for pupils and staff
  • Coordinate monitoring and evaluation activities, including learning walks and work scrutiny
  • Research and promote best practice in teaching and learning
  • Support colleagues to embed new strategies and approaches effectively
  • Contribute to whole‑school improvement priorities and staff development

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
  • Extensive experience delivering high‑quality English teaching
  • Proven ability to model outstanding classroom practice
  • Strong coaching, mentoring, and interpersonal skills
  • Confidence using educational research to inform practice
  • Experience supporting colleagues' professional development
  • A commitment to raising standards and improving outcomes for all learners
  • Willingness to work collaboratively across departments and roles
