Exciting Opportunity: Inclusion Unit Mentor

Are you passionate about supporting students with diverse needs to thrive academically and socially? Do you have experience working with students who require additional support in a school setting? If so, we have an excellent opportunity for you to join our team as an Inclusion Unit Mentor at an Ofsted good secondary school in Denton.

Role Overview:

As an Inclusion Unit Mentor, you will play a pivotal role in providing guidance, support, and mentorship to students who may face barriers to their learning or require additional assistance to reach their full potential. Your responsibilities will include:

  1. Mentorship and Support: Providing one-to-one or small group mentoring sessions to students identified as needing additional support, offering guidance, encouragement, and practical assistance to help them overcome challenges and achieve their academic and personal goals.

  2. Behaviour Management: Assisting in the management of challenging behaviour within the inclusion unit, implementing strategies and interventions to promote positive behaviour and create a supportive and inclusive learning environment for all students.

  3. Academic Support: Supporting students with their learning by providing assistance with classwork, homework, and assignments, as well as offering targeted intervention and enrichment activities to address learning gaps and enhance academic progress.

  4. Emotional Well-being: Providing emotional support and guidance to students experiencing difficulties or distress, offering a listening ear, and signposting to additional support services or resources as necessary to ensure their well-being and mental health needs are met.

  5. Collaboration: Working collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs, pastoral staff, and external agencies to develop and implement individualised support plans for students, sharing insights and observations to inform effective practice and promote the holistic development of students.

Requirements:

  • Previous experience working with students with special educational needs or behavioural difficulties, preferably within a school or educational setting.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students, colleagues, and external stakeholders.
  • Empathy, patience, and resilience, with the ability to remain calm and composed in challenging situations and effectively de-escalate conflicts or confrontations.
  • Knowledge of behaviour management strategies and techniques, as well as an understanding of safeguarding policies and procedures.
  • Flexibility and adaptability to respond to the diverse needs of students and work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
