Supply Desk is seeking a dedicated and experienced Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) to join a supportive and inclusive primary school in the Hemel Hempstead area. This rewarding role involves working closely with teaching staff to support pupils across the school, helping to deliver engaging learning activities and providing targeted support to children with a range of learning and additional needs.
This opportunity would suit an experienced HLTA who is confident working within a primary school environment and is passionate about supporting children to achieve their full potential. The successful candidate will play an important role in supporting classroom learning, promoting positive behaviour, and creating an inclusive environment where all pupils feel supported, valued, and encouraged to succeed.
Key Duties:
• Support teachers in the planning and delivery of engaging lessons and learning activities
• Lead lessons and learning activities in the absence of the class teacher, where appropriate
• Provide targeted one-to-one and small group support to pupils who require additional assistance
• Support pupils with a range of additional learning needs, including SEN, ASD, ADHD, speech and language difficulties, and SEMH needs
• Assist pupils in accessing the curriculum and participating fully in classroom activities
• Monitor and assess pupil progress, providing feedback to teachers and contributing to relevant records
• Promote positive behaviour, emotional wellbeing, independence, and social development
• Work closely with class teachers, SENCOs, support staff, parents/carers, and external professionals where appropriate
• Adapt learning activities and resources to meet the individual needs of pupils
• Encourage confidence, resilience, independence, and a positive attitude towards learning
• Support the effective management of the classroom and maintain a safe, positive, and inclusive learning environment
• Contribute to the wider life of the school and support school policies and procedures
The Ideal Candidate Will Have:
• A recognised Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) qualification or equivalent experience
• Strong experience working within a primary school setting
• Previous experience supporting pupils across a range of abilities and learning needs
• Experience supporting children with Special Educational Needs (SEN) is desirable
• Good knowledge of the primary curriculum and effective classroom support strategies
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Confidence in leading learning activities and supporting classroom management
• A positive, patient, and nurturing approach to working with children
• A genuine enthusiasm for supporting children's learning, development, and wellbeing
• A strong understanding of safeguarding responsibilities
• The ability to work effectively as part of a wider school and teaching team
