We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) to support students with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) within secondary schools across Milton Keynes.
This rewarding role involves working within a mainstream resource provision, supporting students across a range of subjects in mainstream classrooms, delivering targeted interventions, and helping young people achieve their full potential.
As a Higher Level Teaching Assistant, you will:
- Support pupils with SEND in mainstream secondary classrooms.
- Deliver high-quality interventions linked to students' Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs).
- Work closely with the SEND and Emmaus teams to promote student progress and wellbeing.
- Act as a keyworker, delivering Humanities and small-group learning sessions.
- Build positive relationships with students, families, and school staff.
- Adapt learning resources to meet individual needs and encourage student engagement.
- Help create a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment.
- Monitor student progress and maintain accurate records.
- Support students in developing confidence, independence, and skills for adulthood.
The successful candidate will have:
- Experience working with children or young people in a teaching, school, childcare, or SEND setting.
- A genuine passion for supporting students with additional needs.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong organisational and time management abilities.
- Knowledge of classroom practice and effective behaviour management.
- Good literacy and numeracy skills, with confidence supporting across the secondary curriculum.
- Patience, empathy, and the ability to build positive relationships.
- A creative and flexible approach to supporting learning.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to remain calm under pressure.
- An understanding of educational policies, safeguarding, and inclusive practice.
- A positive, resilient attitude and a commitment to helping every student succeed.
- Experience working with children or young people through teaching, learning support, childcare, youth work, or similar roles.
- Experience supporting pupils with SEND is highly desirable.
- Full-time availability (Monday to Friday).
- Eligibility to work in the UK.
- Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one).
