Sometimes the lesson that reconnects a young person with education is not behind a desk.

Teaching Personnel is looking for an experienced Hair & Beauty Tutor to deliver engaging practical sessions every Monday at an alternative education setting in Sherborne.

The provision primarily works with 11–16-year-olds who are unable to access mainstream education full-time. Pupils may have SEMH needs, experienced exclusion, be at risk of permanent exclusion or have other barriers affecting their education.

You will use hair and beauty as a vehicle for learning, confidence and engagement.

The students need someone who can make sessions practical, achievable and purposeful while maintaining clear professional boundaries.

  • Demonstrate techniques safely and clearly
  • Adapt activities for different ability levels
  • Maintain high expectations
  • Encourage reluctant learners to participate
  • Promote confidence and employability skills
  • Manage behaviour constructively
  • Create an environment where students can experience success

We need somebody with relevant Hair & Beauty experience alongside experience working with young people.

Previous teaching, tutoring, training, youth work or alternative provision experience would be particularly valuable.

You must be confident enough to hit the ground running, but patient enough to understand that trust may take time.

The students benefit from staff who are fair, genuine, resilient and consistent. Positive relationships built on trust and respect are an important part of helping pupils develop confidence and independence

  • Competitive weekly pay
