Teaching Personnel are seeking a motivated, compassionate and driven graduate to join a specialist school in Oldham as an SEN Teaching Assistant. This is an excellent opportunity for individuals looking to begin or develop a career in education, psychology, speech and language therapy, or wider support services.

This specialist setting supports pupils aged 4–19 with Autistic Spectrum Condition (ASC) and Speech, Language and Communication Needs (SLCN). The school provides a nurturing and structured environment focused on inclusion, emotional wellbeing, and preparing young people for independent adulthood.

The Role

As a Graduate SEN Teaching Assistant, you will gain hands-on experience supporting pupils with complex additional needs. Working alongside experienced teachers, therapists, and SEN professionals, you will contribute to delivering personalised support that promotes academic, social and emotional development.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide individualised support for pupils with a range of SEN needs
• Deliver 1:1 and small group interventions, adapting learning to suit communication, sensory and cognitive needs
• Support the use of specialist tools such as PECS, AAC systems and visual timetables
• Assist in managing behaviours through positive behaviour support and de-escalation techniques
• Help create a safe, engaging and inclusive classroom environment
• Encourage independence, confidence, social skills and emotional regulation
• Support personal care needs where required, including mobility, feeding and toileting

• A strong interest in SEN, education or child development
• Patient, resilient and adaptable, with a genuine passion for supporting young people
• Proactive decision making
• Comfortable working as part of a multidisciplinary team
• Committed to a full-time, long-term role

Desirable Experience

• Previous experience working with children, young people or vulnerable individuals
• Background in Psychology, Education, Health & Social Care, or related fields
