Are you passionate about supporting young children with additional needs during their earliest stages of learning and development?

We are seeking a caring, patient, and enthusiastic Early Years SEN Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming specialist early years setting in Newport. This rewarding role offers the opportunity to make a lasting impact on the lives of children with Special Educational Needs (SEN) by helping them develop confidence, independence, and essential life skills.

Our nurturing early years provision supports children aged 3–7 with a range of additional learning needs, including Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), speech and language difficulties, developmental delays, sensory processing needs, and complex learning needs.

The setting is committed to providing a safe, inclusive, and engaging environment where every child can thrive. Through play-based learning, specialist interventions, and personalised support, staff work together to ensure each child reaches their full potential.

As an Early Years SEN Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with teachers and therapists to support children both individually and in small groups. You will help create positive learning experiences that encourage communication, social interaction, emotional regulation, and early developmental skills.

• Provide tailored support to children with a range of SEN needs
• Support learning through play-based activities and structured interventions
• Build positive relationships that help children feel safe, secure, and valued
• Assist with communication and language development strategies
• Encourage the development of social skills, independence, and emotional wellbeing
• Work closely with teachers, therapists, and families to support individual learning goals
• Support children with personal care where required
• Maintain accurate observations and provide feedback on children's progress
• Promote safeguarding, wellbeing, and inclusion at all times
• Assist with personal care tasks

• Experience working with children in an Early Years, SEN, childcare, nursery, education, or care setting
• A genuine passion for supporting children with additional learning needs
• Understanding of child development and early years learning
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• A patient, nurturing, and adaptable approach
• Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team
• Knowledge of safeguarding and child protection practices
• Willingness to apply for a DBS and register with the EWC (support provided)
