EOTAS Tutor - Wokingham

Location: Wokingham, Berkshire
Phase: Secondary
Working Arrangement: In-person

Quantum Scholars are looking for a patient, supportive and experienced EOTAS Tutor to provide personalised one-to-one educational support to a secondary-aged young person in Wokingham who is currently educated other than at school (EOTAS).

The successful tutor will have experience supporting secondary-aged learners with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) and/or social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs. They will be confident adapting their teaching approach to meet individual learning needs, helping the young person build confidence, re-engage with education and make progress at a suitable pace.

Experience supporting young people who display challenging or unpredictable behaviour is particularly desirable. The tutor will need to remain calm and consistent, establish appropriate boundaries and use positive behaviour strategies to help the learner feel safe, supported and ready to engage with learning.

This is an in-person tutoring role and is not online work.

The role may involve:

  • Providing personalised one-to-one educational support to a secondary-aged young person receiving EOTAS provision.

  • Supporting learning across the secondary curriculum in subjects suited to the tutor's experience and the learner's needs.

  • Supporting GCSE-level learning where appropriate.

  • Adapting teaching methods, resources and session pace to suit individual learning styles and abilities.

  • Identifying gaps in knowledge and providing targeted educational support.

  • Supporting a young person who may have experienced barriers to mainstream education, including school avoidance, anxiety or disengagement.

  • Responding calmly and consistently to challenging or unpredictable behaviour.

  • Using positive behaviour support strategies, appropriate de-escalation techniques and clear boundaries.

  • Building a trusting relationship to encourage engagement, motivation and confidence.

  • Supporting emotional regulation, resilience and independence.

  • Creating a calm, structured and supportive learning environment.

  • Using the learner's interests and strengths to make sessions engaging and accessible.

  • Monitoring progress and providing appropriate feedback to parents/carers and relevant professionals.

  • Working collaboratively with others involved in the young person's education and support.

  • Maintaining professional boundaries and confidentiality.

  • Following safeguarding procedures and promoting the welfare of the young person.

Essential requirements:

  • Experience working with secondary-aged children or young people with SEND and/or SEMH needs.

  • Experience providing one-to-one tuition, personalised educational support or outreach provision.

  • Experience supporting young people who face barriers to mainstream education.

  • Experience managing challenging behaviour is highly desirable.

  • Confidence using positive behaviour strategies and responding calmly to difficult or unpredictable situations.

  • A patient, flexible, resilient and empathetic approach.

  • Ability to adapt teaching methods to meet individual academic, emotional and behavioural needs.

  • Strong relationship-building and communication skills.

  • Reliability, consistency and good organisational skills.

  • A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.

  • An enhanced DBS check, satisfactory references and the right to work in the UK.

Quantum Scholars is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. All applicants will be subject to appropriate safeguarding and safer recruitment checks.

Salary will be determined by the successful candidate's qualifications and relevant experience, and will be in accordance with the client's pay policy.
