Supply Desk is working in partnership with a number of welcoming and supportive secondary schools in Brighton, who are seeking a passionate and dedicated English Teacher to join them on a full-time basis for long-term and short-term assignments from September 2026. This is an excellent opportunity for both early career teachers and experienced professionals to teach in a dynamic and inclusive environment.

About the Role

As an English Teacher, you will deliver engaging and inspiring lessons across Key Stages 3 and 4, with opportunities to teach Key Stage 5 depending on experience. You will play a key role in fostering a love of English, developing literacy skills, and supporting students to achieve their full academic potential.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver high-quality English lessons in line with the national curriculum
  • Teach across KS3 and KS4 (KS5 opportunities available where applicable)
  • Differentiate lessons to meet the needs of all learners
  • Assess, monitor, and track student progress effectively
  • Create a positive, inclusive, and engaging classroom environment
  • Manage classroom behaviour in line with school policies
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues to support student achievement and department goals
  • Contribute to the wider life of the school community

Candidate Profile

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent
  • Experience teaching English within a secondary school setting
  • Strong subject knowledge and a passion for English language and literature
  • Excellent classroom and behaviour management skills
  • A proactive, flexible, and reflective approach to teaching
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • A genuine commitment to supporting student progress and wellbeing

Requirements

  • UK Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent
  • Enhanced DBS certificate on the Update Service (or willingness to apply)
  • Two professional teaching references
  • Eligibility to work in the UK
