Role Overview:

As an English Graduate Teaching Assistant, you will play a crucial role in supporting the English department and assisting students in their literary and linguistic development. Your responsibilities will include:

  1. Classroom Support: Collaborating with English teachers to deliver engaging and interactive lessons, providing one-to-one or small group support to students who may require additional assistance with reading, writing, or comprehension.

  2. Literacy Development: Assisting students in developing their literacy skills, including reading fluency, vocabulary expansion, grammar, and punctuation, through targeted interventions and activities tailored to their individual needs.

  3. Writing Support: Supporting students in the planning, drafting, and editing of written assignments, essays, and creative pieces, providing constructive feedback and guidance to help them improve their writing skills and express themselves effectively.

  4. Literary Analysis: Facilitating discussions and activities to enhance students' understanding and appreciation of literature, guiding them in analysing texts, identifying themes, and interpreting literary devices and techniques.

  5. Exam Preparation: Assisting students in preparing for English examinations, including GCSEs and other assessments, by providing revision materials, practice questions, and exam techniques to help them excel in their studies.

Requirements:

  • A degree in English literature, language, or a related field from a reputable university.
  • A passion for education and a desire to make a positive impact in the lives of young people.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students, teachers, and colleagues.
  • Strong literacy skills and a good understanding of English language and literature concepts.
  • Patience, empathy, and resilience in supporting students facing literacy challenges or additional needs.
  • Flexibility and adaptability to work collaboratively within a team environment and respond to the diverse needs of students and teachers.
