Mainstream Secondary Schools

I am recruiting for Driving Behaviour Mentors to support students within mainstream secondary schools across Bristol.

This role is ideal for individuals who can stay calm when others can't, build strong relationships with young people, and provide the consistency and boundaries many students need to thrive.

The students you will support may present with challenging, disruptive or unpredictable behaviour. They may struggle with emotional regulation, engagement in lessons, attendance or relationships with peers and staff. Schools are looking for mentors who can see beyond the behaviour and help students move forward positively.

As a Driving Behaviour Mentor, you will:

  • Provide 1:1 and small-group mentoring support
  • Build positive and trusting relationships with students
  • Support young people who are disengaged from education
  • Help students regulate emotions and manage behaviour positively
  • Use de-escalation and restorative approaches where appropriate
  • Support students within lessons, intervention spaces and inclusion settings
  • Promote attendance, engagement and positive decision-making
  • Work closely with SENCOs, pastoral teams and teaching staff
  • Act as a consistent role model throughout the school day

This position would be particularly suitable for individuals with experience as:

  • Behaviour Mentors
  • Youth Workers
  • Teaching Assistants
  • Learning Support Assistants
  • Sports Coaches
  • Residential Childcare Workers
  • Children's Support Workers
  • Family Support Workers
  • Pastoral Support Staff
  • Alternative Provision Staff
  • Youth Offending or Community Support Workers
  • SEMH Support Workers

Transferable experience supporting vulnerable young people is highly valued.

We are looking for individuals who are:

✔ Calm, resilient and emotionally intelligent

✔ Strong relationship-builders

✔ Comfortable working with challenging and unpredictable behaviour

✔ Consistent with expectations and boundaries

✔ Patient, adaptable and solution-focused

✔ Reliable and committed to supporting young people

✔ Able to maintain professionalism during difficult situations

✔ Passionate about helping students achieve positive outcomes

  • Previous experience working with children or young people
  • Confidence supporting behaviour and emotional needs
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Full UK Driving Licence (essential)
  • Access to a vehicle (essential)
  • Full-time availability
  • Enhanced DBS (or willingness to obtain one)

  • Make a meaningful difference to young people's lives
  • Work within supportive mainstream secondary schools
  • Gain valuable experience in behaviour, inclusion and pastoral support
  • Access ongoing CPD and professional development
  • Long-term opportunities with potential for permanent positions
  • Dedicated consultant support throughout your placement

If you're someone who can build trust, remain calm under pressure and help students make positive changes, I'd love to hear from you.
