Cover Supervisors - Brighton & Hove Secondary Schools
Flexible Work | September 2026

Are you confident working with teenagers and interested in gaining experience within secondary schools?

I'm currently recruiting Cover Supervisors to support secondary schools across Brighton & Hove throughout the new academic year.

You don't need to be a qualified teacher.

Instead, schools are looking for confident, reliable people who can walk into a classroom, establish themselves with a group of young people and keep a lesson moving when the usual teacher isn't available.

The lesson has already been planned by the teacher.

Your job is to supervise the class, introduce the work, make sure students understand what's expected of them, keep behaviour manageable and support pupils to stay engaged until the end of the lesson.

You aren't expected to suddenly become a subject specialist or plan lessons from scratch.

You are expected to be comfortable standing in front of a room of secondary-aged pupils and setting clear boundaries.

Cover supervision can be particularly valuable for people considering a future career in teaching because it gives you genuine classroom experience before committing to teacher training.

I'd be interested in hearing from:

  • Graduates
  • Aspiring teachers
  • Sports coaches
  • Youth workers
  • Tutors
  • Teaching Assistants
  • Learning Support Assistants
  • People with previous school experience
  • Individuals with strong experience working with teenagers

Previous classroom experience is beneficial, but isn't essential for every opportunity.

What matters is that you're confident, dependable, adaptable and able to build positive relationships while maintaining professional boundaries.

One of the biggest advantages of supply work is that you don't necessarily need to commit to five days every week.

If you're available Monday to Friday, fantastic.

If you're studying, working around another commitment or simply want two or three days each week, that's absolutely fine too.

You give me your availability and we'll work around it.

You'll have a dedicated consultant who works directly with secondary schools across Sussex, support throughout the registration and placement process, and access to opportunities across Brighton & Hove.

You'll also gain experience across different schools, year groups and classroom environments - particularly useful if teaching is something you're considering longer term.
