Are you passionate about supporting children and young people and helping them overcome barriers to education? Do you enjoy building strong relationships and working in environments outside of a traditional classroom?

An established Alternative Provision in High Wycombe is seeking a committed and compassionate Community Mentor to support children and young people across High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire, and surrounding areas.

As a Community Mentor, you will provide personalised 1:1 mentoring and educational support to pupils who may have SEN, SEMH, behavioural needs, or other additional needs. Sessions may take place in pupils' homes, community venues, and local learning environments.

You'll help young people rebuild their confidence, re-engage with education, develop positive routines, and work towards meaningful academic, social, and personal goals.

A full UK driving licence and access to your own vehicle are essential, as regular travel across the local area will be required. A fuel allowance is provided.



Key Responsibilities of a Community Mentor

  • Deliver tailored 1:1 mentoring and educational support based on individual pupil needs.
  • Plan and deliver engaging intervention sessions that encourage participation and re-engagement with education.
  • Support young people with SEN, SEMH, behavioural, social, and emotional needs.
  • Work closely with families, schools, and external professionals to ensure consistent support.
  • Monitor learner progress, maintain accurate records, and contribute to individual support plans.
  • Identify and help overcome barriers that may be preventing young people from accessing education.
  • Adapt your approach to meet the needs of different pupils and community settings.


We're Looking For a Community Mentor Who Has:

  • Experience supporting children or young people through education, mentoring, youth work, outreach, pastoral care, or a similar setting.
  • The ability to quickly build trust and positive relationships with young people.
  • Strong communication, organisation, and time-management skills.
  • Confidence working independently and managing a varied schedule.
  • A full UK driving licence and access to your own vehicle.
  • Flexibility to travel throughout High Wycombe and surrounding areas.
