Students often recall the names of biological processes but may struggle to understand their true significance.
Your role is to ensure they grasp both the terminology and the underlying concepts.

As a Secondary Biology Teacher, you will deliver engaging lessons to KS3 and KS4 students, explaining how living systems function through clear, structured progression that enables pupils to build their knowledge step by step.

Key Responsibilities

  • Teach Biology across KS3 and KS4 curricula
  • Clearly explain processes such as respiration, digestion, and photosynthesis
  • Support students in interpreting diagrams and biological systems
  • Deliver practical experiments safely and effectively
  • Reinforce correct scientific terminology and language
  • Prepare students thoroughly for GCSE examinations
  • Monitor student progress and provide targeted support where needed

The Classroom Environment

  • Lessons are well-structured and appropriately paced
  • Students develop a deep understanding, rather than rote memorisation
  • Practical work complements and reinforces theoretical learning
  • Maintaining calm and consistent behaviour management

Skills and Experience

  • Strong subject knowledge in Biology
  • Experience teaching at secondary level or a strong academic background in the subject
  • Excellent communication and explanation skills
  • Confident and effective classroom management

What Success Looks Like

  • Students confidently explain processes in their own words
  • Improved confidence in both written and verbal responses
  • Reduction in common misconceptions
  • Consistent progress across all ability levels

Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) is desirable; however, applications are welcome from unqualified teachers, particularly those with backgrounds in Biology or life sciences.
