Job Duties:

  • Provide support and assistance to students with challenging behaviour in an educational setting
  • Implement behaviour management strategies and interventions as directed by the school's behaviour policy
  • Assist in the development and implementation of individualised behaviour plans for students
  • Support students in their academic and social development, helping to create a positive learning environment
  • Supervise and ensure the safety and well-being of students during lessons and activities
  • Collaborate with teachers, parents, and other professionals to effectively address students' behavioural needs
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation of students' progress and behaviour incidents
  • Participate in training and professional development activities to enhance knowledge and skills in behaviour support

Required Qualifications:

  • Previous experience working with children or young adults with challenging behaviour
  • Strong understanding of behaviour management strategies and techniques
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to remain calm and patient in challenging situations
  • A positive and empathetic approach towards students
  • Good organisational skills and the ability to prioritise tasks
  • Flexibility to adapt to changing needs and demands
  • Valid DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) clearance

Education:

  • Minimum of GCSE's

Experience:

  • Proven experience working in a similar role, preferably within an educational setting

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Understanding of child development and the impact of behaviour on learning
  • Familiarity with relevant legislation and policies related to behaviour support in education
  • Ability to effectively de-escalate and manage challenging behaviour
  • Knowledge of different behaviour management strategies and interventions
  • Proficient in using basic computer applications and record-keeping systems

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Additional certifications or training in behaviour support or related field
  • Experience working with students with special educational needs

Working Conditions:

The Behaviour Support Assistant will primarily work within an educational setting, such as a school or college, in the Redruth area. The role may require the individual to work with students who exhibit challenging behaviour. The working hours will be full-time, and the position is temporary in nature. The assistant may need to adapt to varying schedules and participate in occasional training and professional development activities.
