Teaching Personnel are currently recruiting resilient, compassionate, and proactive Behaviour Intervention Support Staff to work within SEMH schools and specialist provisions across either Wigan or Bolton.

These roles are ideal for individuals passionate about supporting children and young people who experience social, emotional, and mental health difficulties, helping them re-engage with education and develop positive coping strategies within a safe and structured environment.


As a Behaviour Intervention Support Assistant, you will work closely with pupils who may:

  • Display challenging or distressed behaviours
  • Struggle with emotional regulation
  • Experience anxiety, trauma, or attachment difficulties
  • Have SEMH needs alongside ASC or ADHD
  • Find mainstream education environments difficult
  • Require consistent behavioural and emotional support throughout the school day

You will play a vital role in helping pupils feel supported, understood, and motivated within school.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Providing 1:1 and small-group behavioural and emotional support
  • Supporting pupils during periods of dysregulation and implementing de-escalation strategies
  • Building strong, positive, and trusting relationships with vulnerable young people
  • Encouraging emotional resilience, self-esteem, and positive social interactions
  • Supporting pupils to engage with learning and classroom routines
  • Acting as a positive role model and promoting appropriate behaviours
  • Working collaboratively with teachers, pastoral teams, SENCOs, and external professionals
  • Supporting the delivery of behaviour support plans and intervention strategies
  • Creating a calm, safe, and nurturing environment for pupils to thrive
