Teaching Personnel support a Pupil Referral Unit in Preston which caters for pupils aged 11-16 with complex social, emotional and mental health difficulties. May pupils who attend this unit tend to display challenging behaviours and may display oppositional defiance behaviours. Many pupils have previously had a bad experience within education, therefore, there may be large gaps within their education, and many will have a negative perspective on their education.

In order to combat the negative perception of education the school creates an environment in which pupils may thrive. The school ensures that all pupils have an enriched curriculum including core subjects and more vocational subjects such as sports, motor vehicle, hair dressing and enrichment. The school, which has smaller class sizes than normal, has a dynamic teaching style which the pupils which can engage with.

As a Behavioural Mentor, your duties will include you will be required to supervise the pupils throughout the school day, encourage the pupils to engage with their education, build rapport with the pupil, be a role model, help the pupils to understand why their education is important. You may be required to work 1:1 with a certain pupil or provide more general classroom support.

The school would be interested in a candidate who has previous experience supporting children who display challenging behaviours. They would also consider applications from Sports Coaches, Carers, Residential support workers, Youth Workers and those with the experience within the Prison system or the Military.
