Position: Contract Behaviour LSA in an SEMH Provision

Location: Hillingdon

Days: Monday to Friday (5 days)

Daily Rate: £85 – £100 (depending on experience)

Start: April 2024

Forward thinking and dynamic SEMH Provision located in Hillingdon is seeking an experienced Learning Support Assistant (LSA) to work on a contract basis within a SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health) provision. The successful LSA will have strong skills in working with students with SEMH and ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorder), Behaviour Difficulties, Complex Needs on a 1:1 basis, deescalating behaviour in a classroom support setting.  This position is to commence in April 2024.

Pupils who attend this SEMH Provision are between the ages of 7 – 18 years old.  Class sizes in this provision are small, typically between 5 – 7 children in each class.  Classes will be supported by the SEMH Teacher and several Behaviour LSAs. As a Behaviour LSA, you will be supporting them in all aspects of their school life an in their classes.  You must be able to build a strong rapport with children able to deescalate behavioural difficulties as and when required. 

The successful behaviour LSA:

  • Experience working as a Learning Support Assistant in a SEMH provision.
  • Strong skills in working with students with SEMH and ASD, Behaviour Difficulties, Complex Needs, 1:1 support and deescalating behaviour.
  • Knowledge of safeguarding and child protection procedures.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team and on own initiative.
  • Experience of working with pupils with challenging behaviour.
  • A relevant qualification in Health and Social Care, Childcare or Education would be desirable.
  • To provide support to students with SEMH and ASD, Behaviour Difficulties and Complex Needs on a 1:1 basis or in a classroom setting.
  • To work alongside teaching staff to deliver an effective curriculum which meets the needs of each individual student.
  • To develop and implement strategies for behaviour management and de-escalation for students with SEMH and ASD.
  • To assist with the planning and preparation of learning resources and materials.
  • To contribute to the assessment of student progress and the setting of learning objectives.
  • To maintain accurate records of student progress and behaviour.
  • To communicate effectively with parents, carers, and other professionals involved in the care and education of students.
