Autism and SEMH Learning Support
Join our dedicated team at Teaching Personnel, a leading provider of educational support services, where we specialise in supporting students with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, including those with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). We are currently seeking a compassionate and experienced Autism Behaviour Support Mentor to work within Alternative Education Provision settings. Key Responsibilities
- Provide individualised support and guidance to students with Autism/ SEN and SEMH, assisting them in regulating emotions, developing coping strategies, and navigating social interactions.
- Implement behaviour management techniques tailored to the specific needs of students with ASD, including sensory regulation strategies and visual supports.
- Collaborate with teaching staff, SENCOs, and external professionals to develop and implement personalized behaviour plans and support strategies for students with SEMH and ASD needs.
- Manage instances of anti-social behaviour within Alternative Provision settings, using proactive strategies to prevent escalation and promote positive behaviour.
- Maintain accurate records of student progress, behaviour incidents, and interventions, and communicate findings to relevant stakeholders.
- Foster a supportive and inclusive environment within the classroom and across the provision, promoting understanding and acceptance of neurodiversity.
- Provide guidance and support to teaching staff on best practices for supporting students with ASD and SEMH needs within the classroom environment.
- Act as a positive role model for students, demonstrating empathy, patience, and understanding in all interactions.
Requirements:
- Previous experience working with children or young people with SEMH and ASD needs, preferably within an educational or alternative provision setting desirable.
- Knowledge of behaviour management techniques, including de-escalation strategies and positive reinforcement approaches.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport with students, staff, and external professionals.
- Resilience and patience when working with challenging behaviour and complex emotional needs.
- Relevant qualifications in education, psychology, counselling, or a related field are desirable but not essential.
- Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people, adhering to organisational policies and procedures at all times.
- Enhanced DBS clearance (or willingness to obtain) is required for this role.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
