Are you a caring, patient, and dedicated Teaching Assistant with experience supporting children with Autism? We are seeking a committed 1:1 Autism Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming and supportive school, where you'll provide personalised support to help a pupil access learning, develop independence, and thrive in the school environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide dedicated 1:1 support to a pupil with Autism, helping them access learning and participate fully in school life.
- Support the pupil with their academic, social, emotional, and communication development.
- Work closely with the class teacher and SENCO to implement individualised support strategies and learning plans.
- Adapt learning activities, resources, and communication approaches to meet the pupil’s individual needs.
- Encourage positive behaviour and use appropriate strategies to support emotional regulation and engagement.
- Help the pupil develop confidence, independence, communication, and social skills.
- Provide support during lessons, break times, lunchtimes, and other school activities where required.
- Monitor the pupil’s progress, engagement, and behaviour, providing regular feedback to the class teacher and SENCO.
- Build a positive and trusting relationship with the pupil, creating a safe, calm, and inclusive learning environment.
- Work collaboratively with teachers, support staff, parents, and other professionals involved in the pupil’s care and education.
- Ensure safeguarding policies and procedures are followed at all times.
Requirements
- A patient, calm, empathetic, and supportive approach to working with children.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- The ability to build positive relationships and provide consistent 1:1 support.
- A good understanding of Autism and the different ways it can affect learning, communication, and behaviour.
- A commitment to supporting pupils to develop independence and achieve their potential.
- An understanding of safeguarding and child protection procedures.
- A current enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to obtain one.
