Are you a caring, patient, and dedicated Teaching Assistant with experience supporting children with Autism? We are seeking a committed 1:1 Autism Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming and supportive school, where you'll provide personalised support to help a pupil access learning, develop independence, and thrive in the school environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide dedicated 1:1 support to a pupil with Autism, helping them access learning and participate fully in school life.
  • Support the pupil with their academic, social, emotional, and communication development.
  • Work closely with the class teacher and SENCO to implement individualised support strategies and learning plans.
  • Adapt learning activities, resources, and communication approaches to meet the pupil’s individual needs.
  • Encourage positive behaviour and use appropriate strategies to support emotional regulation and engagement.
  • Help the pupil develop confidence, independence, communication, and social skills.
  • Provide support during lessons, break times, lunchtimes, and other school activities where required.
  • Monitor the pupil’s progress, engagement, and behaviour, providing regular feedback to the class teacher and SENCO.
  • Build a positive and trusting relationship with the pupil, creating a safe, calm, and inclusive learning environment.
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, support staff, parents, and other professionals involved in the pupil’s care and education.
  • Ensure safeguarding policies and procedures are followed at all times.

Requirements

  • A patient, calm, empathetic, and supportive approach to working with children.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • The ability to build positive relationships and provide consistent 1:1 support.
  • A good understanding of Autism and the different ways it can affect learning, communication, and behaviour.
  • A commitment to supporting pupils to develop independence and achieve their potential.
  • An understanding of safeguarding and child protection procedures.
  • A current enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to obtain one.
