Working with children with social, emotional, and mental health needs is a very rewarding career in which you will support, guide and encourage students to reach for their goals. An inclusive and welcoming Pupil Referral Unit in Wakefield is actively looking for a Behaviour Support Worker to add to their team of proactive and motivated staff. The successful applicant will play a pivotal part in ensuring the children are kept on task, learning to their full capability and have a point of contact for any issues or concerns. The children have a range of needs, requiring the applicant to have patience and the ability to think on your feet to provide them with the support they need.

Your role will include:
Establishing constructive relationships with students
Following the positive behaviour plans for each individual child
Supporting class teacher and other support staff to maintain a positive working environment
Developing a clear understanding of the specific needs of each pupil
Looking after children's physical, emotional and social welfare
Recognising signs of distress in children, offering reassurance and de-escalating the situation to best of your ability
Maintaining a record and provide regular feedback about pupils to the teachers and/or SENCO in order to best track pupil progress
Assisting the school in communicating with parent and carers using the appropriate approach
Supporting all learners in their curriculum studies and throughout the day

Key skills and experience needed:
Excellent communications and interpersonal skills
Commitment to and passion for working with vulnerable children
Experience working in SEND/SEMH/SEBD setting
Experience working or volunteering with children
The ability to manage confrontation and challenging behaviour
Able to work with learners with various learning difficulties
Flexibility in approach to educating and supporting children
Team teach certified or equivalent (e.g. MAPA, NAPPI, Secura Care)
