Description

The Associate Director for Institutional Research in the Office of Planning and Assessment (OPA) will identify and lead the exploration of meaningful and actionable research questions, informed through relationships with a wide array of University leaders across 24 campus locations and considering strategic priorities and University values. OPA is a dynamic unit that is responsible for leading strategic planning, regional accreditation, institutional research, and learning outcomes assessment University-wide. The Associate Director will be responsible for sourcing data, performing analyses, and writing institutional research reports. The Associate Director will utilize University data systems to develop and apply in-depth analyses and reports on topics such as faculty activity and student performance, resource utilization and organizational performance, and institutional effectiveness. The Associate Director will supervise and mentor a team of skilled institutional researchers. Concurrently, the Associate Director will work with other OPA staff to develop and implement appropriate methodologies to address their questions. The Associate Director will also provide support for external reporting, strategic planning, learning outcomes assessment, and accreditation. The Associate Director will report to and collaborate with the Associate Vice Provost for Planning and Institutional Research to ensure that the office's research agenda is targeted, meaningful, and in direct support of University goals. The successful candidate will be able to develop meaningful research questions and design and implement institutional research studies. Should have a broad knowledge of institutional research methods, intermediate/advanced statistics, analytical computing, and higher education issues, as well as experience in a higher education context. Able to clean, debug, and analyze complex datasets that link data from a variety of sources. Extensive knowledge and demonstrated use of database management tools such as Access, SQL, and Excel required. Experience with external university reporting (e.g., IPEDS, college rankings) preferred. Demonstrated application of data analysis and equity assessment skills, including measures of central tendency and predictive modeling required. Experience supervising and mentoring staff preferred. Excellent organizational judgment and strong abilities to negotiate, seek consensus, and achieve cooperation are crucial traits. Capable of working independently on complex assignments, collaborating with others, and making judgments about priorities and quality. Demonstrated ability to present complex ideas, techniques, and analytic findings clearly and effectively, orally and in writing. Typically requires a Master's degree or higher plus five years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. PhD preferred.
