Job Description

The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) is
seeking a visionary Provost to lead the academic mission of the
university. With campuses at multiple sites throughout the
Rio Grande Valley, UTRGV empowers successful futures, enhances
daily life, and lets the region shine as a global innovator in
higher education, bilingual education, health education, biomedical
research, and emerging technology that inspires positive
change.
Guy Bailey, Ph.D., was named President of The University of
Texas Rio Grande Valley in May of 2014. The inaugural
strategic plan ()
provides direction over the next five years to help shape the
identity of UTRGV. The vision of UTRGV is to be one of the nation's
leaders in higher education, its premier Hispanic-serving
institution, and a highly engaged bilingual university, with
exceptional educational, research, and creative opportunities that
serve as catalysts for transformation in the Rio Grande Valley and
beyond. Its mission is to transform the Rio Grande Valley, the
Americas, and the world through an innovative and accessible
educational environment that promotes student success, research,
creative works, health and well-being, community engagement,
sustainable development, and commercialization of university
discoveries.
Reporting directly to the President, the Provost serves
as the Chief Academic Officer charged with daily
responsibility of the teaching and scholarly activity as service
components of the institution's mission, providing executive
leadership in the implementation of effective planning in academic
affairs and in excellence in academic degree programs and support
units, and representing the academic interests of the university in
off-campus activities as designated by the President. The Provost
will be an effective academic and administrative leader with a
robust personal record of teaching and research; evidence of a
strong commitment to UTRGV's mission and values; an enthusiastic
view about the value of UTRGV as a B3 institution; demonstrated
ability to establish new programs and provide leadership in
curriculum growth; proven passion for student success and skill in
elevating graduation rates; and working knowledge and success in
leveraging state funding formulas, especially within the state of
Texas.
