The requirement

Schools in the Chester area are seeking qualified Teaching Assistants with specific experience supporting pupils with Autism and related needs. These are not general classroom support roles - they are targeted SEND positions.

Pupil needs you'll be supporting:

  • Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)
  • Sensory processing differences
  • Speech, language and communication needs (SLCN)
  • Associated anxiety, emotional regulation, and social interaction needs

Experience with visual timetables, structured routines, and de-escalation strategies is highly valued as a Teaching Assistant - ASD.

Your responsibilities:

  • Provide consistent 1:1 or small-group autism support
  • Follow and contribute to EHCP-led strategies
  • Support transitions, engagement, and regulation
  • Liaise with teachers, SENCOs, and external professionals
  • Maintain a calm, predictable learning environment

Essential criteria:

  • Level 2 or Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification
  • Proven ASD/SEND experience in a school or specialist setting
  • Confident understanding of autism-friendly practice
  • Professional, reliable, and adaptable approach
