Complex Needs Support Assistant – Portsmouth

Location: Inclusive school in Portsmouth

Contract Type: Full-time, Temporary (with potential to become permanent) Pay: £82 – £95 per day

Start Date: March 2026

A well-regarded, specialist school and children’s home is looking for Teaching Assistants and Support Workers to work with children from the ages of 4 -11 with Autism and other neurodivergent needs. This is a shift role which may involve evening work to support children residing at the school.

About the School:

The school is an inclusive and supportive school working with children with Autism. The school is situated with extensive outdoor land for additional educational opportunities. There is a high proportion of children with additional needs and two inclusion units on the site to support those with specific needs.

The Role:

 This role involves supporting pupils with complex needs, including those with ASC, ADHD, SEMH and other learning or developmental challenges. You’ll work both one-to-one and within the classroom, helping children access learning. Being a good communicator with teachers and other support staff is key.

What We’re Looking For We’re keen to hear from candidates who:

• Have experience supporting children with complex needs
• Are confident working within a classroom setting
• Can work effectively as part of a team
• Are patient, adaptable and responsive to individual pupil needs
• Hold a relevant qualification (e.g. CACHE Level 2 – desirable but not essential)

Responsibilities

• Provide tailored support to pupils with complex needs
• Assist with classroom routines and learning activities
• Promote positive behaviour and engagement
• Support small group work and individual interventions
• Work closely with teaching staff and contribute to wider school life
