We are looking for an enthusiastic SEN Teaching Assistant to join an established team in a special school in Huddersfield.

This role will commence in September 2020, and will be to meet the additional needs of pupils who will be returning to school in the new academic year, following a significant amount of time without accessing formal education. You will be expected to work with small groups of pupils, in ‘Bubble’ classes alongside a class teacher.

The school caters for 127 pupils aged between 3 and 19 years and is situated near Almondbury, to the South-East of Huddersfield town centre. The school provides education at an individual level, for pupils with profound or severe learning difficulties and for pupils on the autistic spectrum. The staff team work collaboratively and the school has provision on site for physiotherapy, occupational therapy, speech and language therapy, music therapy, health and social care.

The successful candidate will have the ability to form strong links with families, parents, carers and the local community and will work in partnership with the school governors, Parents Teachers and Friends Association to ensure that pupils are able to access a holistic programme of education, personal, social and emotional care.

A sound knowledge and understanding of learning opportunities in a Special School is essential You will need to evidence how you would support learning to maximise pupil progress and how you would present professionally at all times.

An ability to positively accept and follow direction is essential in order to maximise pupil learning and contribute to an inspiring learning environment.

You will work under the instruction guidance of teaching/senior staff to undertake work/care/support programmes, to enable access to learning for pupils and to assist the teacher in the management of pupils and the classroom. Work may be carried out in the classroom or may regularly take place outside the main teaching area.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Attending to the welfare and personal care of pupils including those with special educational needs Delivering pre-determined learning/care/support programme
  • Implementing literacy/numeracy programmes
  • Assisting with the planning cycle
  • Undertaking general clerical/administrative support for the teacher/department

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
