A specialist independent school in the Tonbridge area is seeking caring, resilient and enthusiastic Teaching Assistants to join its growing SEMH provision. This is an exciting opportunity for individuals looking to build a rewarding career supporting pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs within a nurturing and therapeutic educational environment.

The school supports pupils aged approximately 8-18 with SEMH needs, alongside additional needs including Autism, ADHD, speech and communication difficulties, and associated learning needs. The setting is recognised for its small class sizes, strong pastoral support and personalised approach to education.

We are looking for Teaching Assistants who are passionate about making a difference both inside and outside the classroom. You will work closely with teachers, pastoral teams and therapists to support pupils academically, socially and emotionally.

Responsibilities may include:

  • Supporting pupils on a 1:1 basis and in small groups
  • Helping students regulate emotions and engage positively in learning
  • Assisting with classroom activities and differentiated learning
  • Building strong, consistent and positive relationships
  • Supporting behaviour through encouragement, structure and patience
  • Promoting independence, confidence and self-esteem
  • Small classes with high levels of support
  • A therapeutic and nurturing environment
  • Opportunities for specialist SEMH and SEND training
  • Strong teamwork and collaborative staff culture
  • A chance to genuinely impact young people's lives every day
  • Clear pathways into teaching, pastoral care or specialist education roles

This role would particularly suit individuals who are calm, empathetic and motivated by helping young people succeed despite challenges they may face in education and life.

  • Have experience working with children or young people (education, care, youth work or similar)
  • Have an interest in SEMH, SEND or alternative education
  • Are patient, resilient and adaptable
  • Can build positive professional relationships
  • Are passionate about inclusion and supporting vulnerable learners
  • Want to be part of a supportive and forward-thinking team
