The role of a reception teacher involves nurturing a love for learning in young children and preparing them for future academic success, while also supporting their social and emotional growth during their formative years.

Responsibilities: 

  • Early Years Curriculum Delivery: Planning and delivering engaging lessons aligned with the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) framework.
  • Child Development: Monitoring and supporting the social, emotional, and academic development of young children.
  • Assessment and Reporting: Conducting ongoing assessments to track progress and provide feedback to parents and guardians.
  • Differentiation and Support: Tailoring teaching methods to cater to individual learning needs and providing additional support where necessary.
  • Classroom Management: Creating a safe, nurturing, and stimulating learning environment conducive to early childhood education.
  • Parental Engagement: Building positive relationships with parents and caregivers, providing updates on children's progress and fostering partnership in their learning journey.
  • Team Collaboration: Working closely with teaching assistants, support staff, and other educators to ensure holistic development and effective classroom management.
  • Professional Development: Engaging in continuous professional development to enhance teaching practices and stay updated with educational trends and policies.
  • Administrative Duties: Completing administrative tasks such as attendance records, lesson planning, and maintaining learning resources.
  • Promoting Wellbeing: Promoting the wellbeing and positive behaviour of children through effective pastoral care and support.

Requirements:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent teaching qualification.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Education or a related field.
  • Experience teaching in a Reception class or similar early years setting is highly desirable.
  • Knowledge of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) curriculum and assessment methods.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and motivate young children.
  • Organizational and time-management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.

  • Ability to build strong relationships with children, parents, and colleagues.
