As a Year 1 Teacher, you will support pupils transitioning from early years into more structured learning, building confidence and independence along the way.

Key responsibilities
Teach Year 1 curriculum including phonics, literacy, and maths
Support transition from EYFS to structured learning
Establish clear classroom routines
Develop independence and focus in pupils
Differentiate learning to meet needs
Track progress and support development
Work with parents and support staff

The classroom environment
Clear, consistent routines
Calm and structured lessons
Pupils feel secure and supported
Behaviour is predictable and managed

Skills and experience
Experience in KS1 or early primary
Strong knowledge of phonics
Patience and consistency
Clear communication

What success looks like
Pupils gain confidence in reading and writing
Independence improves
Routines are embedded

QTS is desirable; unqualified teachers are welcome to apply, particularly those with KS1 experience
