About the Role:
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Lead Caretaker/Site Supervisor to oversee the maintenance of our academies in East Cornwall or Devon. In this key leadership role, you will be responsible for ensuring a high standard of premises maintenance across our sites, while managing and supporting our team of Caretakers and Site Supervisors.

Job Purpose:
As the Lead Caretaker/Site Supervisor, you will play a critical role in maintaining the safety, security, and functionality of our school buildings and grounds. Your primary responsibilities include organising and overseeing both planned and reactive maintenance tasks, ensuring compliance with all regulatory and health & safety standards, and leading a team to achieve the highest level of service.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide leadership and management to a team of Caretakers/Site Supervisors, ensuring they are well-supported and equipped to perform their duties.
  • Perform and oversee general maintenance tasks, including carpentry, electrical work, plumbing, drainage, painting, and decorating.
  • Coordinate the management of resources and stock levels across multiple sites, ensuring timely replenishment and effective use of resources.
  • Organise and oversee contractors working on-site, ensuring that all work is completed to a high standard and in line with health & safety regulations.
  • Develop and implement maintenance schedules, ensuring all planned and reactive maintenance tasks are completed efficiently.
  • Monitor and enforce security arrangements to prevent unauthorised access, theft, and vandalism across all sites.
  • Respond to emergencies such as fire, flood, or break-ins, coordinating the response and ensuring the safety and security of the site.
  • Maintain external areas across the academies, ensuring they are free from hazards such as litter, ice, and leaves.
  • Utilise IT systems to communicate, manage maintenance records, and report on site conditions.
  • Foster positive relationships with staff, pupils, parents, and visitors, ensuring a professional and supportive environment.

Essential Skills and Qualifications:

  • Proven experience in a leadership role within site maintenance, preferably in a school or educational setting.
  • Strong practical skills in general maintenance tasks, with a basic understanding of electrical work, plumbing, and carpentry.
  • Proficiency in IT, particularly in using Microsoft Office and mobile technology.
  • Excellent organisational skills, with strong literacy and numeracy abilities.
  • Outstanding verbal communication and active listening skills.
  • Ability to remain calm in stressful situations and maintain confidentiality.
  • Commitment to safeguarding, equality, and creating a safe environment for children and young people.
  • Physical capability to undertake demanding work, with the ability to lead by example.
  • Full, current driving licence and willingness to travel between site locations.

Preferred Experience:

  • Extensive experience in building maintenance, with a thorough understanding of the challenges in maintaining educational settings.
  • In-depth knowledge of Health and Safety policies, COSHH regulations, and risk management.
