Supply Desk is working in partnership with a specialist SEN school in High Wycombe to appoint a dedicated and compassionate PMLD Teaching Assistant. This is a highly rewarding opportunity to support pupils with Profound and Multiple Learning Disabilities (PMLD) in a structured, nurturing school environment.

This role is ideal for a patient and caring individual who is passionate about supporting pupils with complex needs, helping them develop communication, sensory awareness, physical skills, and independence.

As a PMLD Teaching Assistant, you will provide tailored support to pupils with complex learning difficulties, physical disabilities, and medical needs. You will play a key role in creating a safe, engaging, and supportive learning environment.

  • Supporting pupils with PMLD on a 1:1 and small group basis
  • Assisting the class teacher with individualised learning plans and activities
  • Supporting sensory-based and play-based learning approaches
  • Working closely with teachers, therapists, and support staff
  • Supporting communication development (e.g. PECS, Makaton, sensory cues)
  • Assisting with personal care and manual handling (essential requirement)
  • Encouraging physical development and engagement in activities
  • Promoting independence, no matter how small the progress
  • Creating a calm, inclusive, and structured environment
  • Experience working with children or young people with PMLD or complex SEN (highly desirable)
  • A calm, patient, and resilient approach
  • Comfortable supporting personal care and medical needs
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • A genuine passion for supporting pupils with complex needs
  • Availability to work in High Wycombe on a long-term basis

Desirable (but not essential):

  • Background in care, education, or healthcare
  • Moving & handling training
  • Experience using communication tools such as Makaton or PECS
