Sir Elton John

Our poptastic favourite had similar yearnings to Johnny Depp. He bailed on school at 16 and took a job in a pub playing piano.  The rest, as they say, is history! Wanting to live the dream seems to be a common theme…

Simon Cowell

Simon left school with 2 O levels.  He started work in the mail room of a record company and worked his way up the line.  It seems, a bit like Sir Sugar, that learning the workings of an industry and proving yourself a hard worker, with a bit of initiative, and you can go far.  Simon went so far as to become the man behind One Direction and the X Factor.

Thomas Edison

Edison invented the light bulb… which was a bright idea… ba dum dum! Even more dumb were his teachers, who claimed he was too stupid to learn anything. He went on to hold over a thousand patents for the things he invented.  It’s Ok… he was in fine company…

Bill Gates

Bill Gates dropped out of college when he saw an article about a microcomputer and thought he had an idea that could change the world… that kinda worked out for him, I would say!

Walt Disney

Disney dropped out of school at the age of 16 and joined the Army.  He also had some pretty disastrous experiences in the film industry before being successful.  It is hard to imagine this to be true when you think about the world domination of the dream of Disney – but failures often underpin great successes.
